TRAVELLERS' TALES

In 1995 my husband and I decided to let our house for six months and go travelling. The 'gap year' had not been invented when we were students and we had missed out on the hippy trail era of the sixties (too busy building careers and raising babies) so we thought it was time we saw a bit of the world while we still had the energy. We didn't have much spare cash, so we bought a couple of airline tickets that would take us to Australia and New Zealand and back, with stop-overs in Thailand and Java and an overland segement from Bankok to Singapore, and a copy of the Shoestring Guide to the relevant places, joined the YHA and set off.

What followed was the most exciting, stimulating and exhausting six months of our lives. I kept a detailed journal throughout and what follows are edited extracts. From time to time I intend to add further extracts, so if you are interested WATCH THIS SPACE!
